Cuando los desarrolladores proponen nuevas reglas, los operadores de nodos deciden si actualizan. Un soft fork aprieta las reglas, de modo que los nodos antiguos aceptan la nueva cadena pero no pueden producir bloques en ella. Un hard fork relaja o cambia las reglas de forma que los nodos antiguos las rechazan; la cadena se divide en dos si una parte significativa de los operadores se niega a actualizar.<\/p>\n<h2>Ejemplo<\/h2>\n<p>Bitcoin Cash forke\u00f3 de Bitcoin en agosto de 2017 como hard fork por los l\u00edmites de tama\u00f1o de bloque. Hoy existen dos cadenas separadas, ambas descendientes del mismo historial previo a la separaci\u00f3n.
