Review Methodology: How We Score Platforms
This page explains how Volity scores and ranks trading platforms in our comparison articles. Every platform we cover, including Volity, is scored against the same criteria.
Rating Criteria & Weightings
| Criteria | Weight | What We Assess |
|---|---|---|
| Regulation & Safety | 25% | Regulatory licences, segregated funds, compensation schemes |
| Fees & Spreads | 20% | Live spread data, commissions, overnight charges, deposit/withdrawal fees |
| Platform & Tools | 20% | Platform stability, charting tools, mobile app, order types |
| Asset Range | 15% | Number of instruments across forex, indices, commodities, crypto |
| Customer Support | 10% | Availability, response time, language support |
| Education & Research | 10% | Quality of educational content, market analysis, research tools |
How Scores Are Calculated
- Each criterion is scored 1 to 10 by two independent reviewers
- Scores are averaged, then weighted by the percentages above
- Final scores round to one decimal place
- If two platforms tie, the one with the higher Regulation & Safety score wins the tie
Editor’s Choice Designation
The “Editor’s Choice” badge goes to the platform with the highest weighted score in a given comparison category. It isn’t sponsored or paid for, and we don’t override the score with editorial preference. Where Volity wins it, the page says so plainly.
Data Sources
- Spread and fee data comes from each broker’s published pricing page, checked at the time of review
- Regulatory status is verified against the relevant authority’s public register (CySEC, FCA, ASIC, etc.)
- Platform assessments come from live testing by our review team
