Crypto Trading Fees on Volity: Spreads, Commissions, and Zero Wallet

Table of Contents

Crypto trading fees on Volity are spread-based with no per-trade commission on Standard accounts. Wallet costs are $0. SEPA and internal transfers are free. FX conversion is 1%. Swap (overnight financing) applies to leveraged positions held past 22:00 GMT. This page lists the full cost structure so you can model your trading expenses before opening an account.

Crypto trading fees: what you pay on every trade

Three cost lines on Volity, every retail crypto trade:

1. Spread. The difference between bid and ask. Standard-account spreads on top crypto pairs are competitive with major exchanges. The spread is the only per-trade cost on Standard accounts; there is no separate commission.

2. Swap (overnight financing). Applied to leveraged positions held past 22:00 GMT. Can be positive (you receive) or negative (you pay) depending on the funding-rate market. Closed positions and positions opened and closed within the same trading day are not subject to swap.

3. Network fees on crypto deposits and withdrawals. Standard on-chain network fees apply when you send crypto in or out of your Volity wallet. These are not Volity fees; they are paid to the network (Ethereum gas, Bitcoin miner fees). Volity does not surcharge.

That is the complete trading cost structure. No maker/taker fee. No deposit fee on card or SEPA. No withdrawal fee on SEPA. No monthly account fee. No inactivity fee within reasonable use.

Wallet and payment costs (zero where it counts)

Action Cost
Open wallet $0
Hold any currency in wallet $0/month
Deposit fiat via SEPA $0
Deposit fiat via card $0 (card issuer fees may apply at their end)
Deposit crypto (BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC) $0 from Volity (network fees apply)
Internal transfer (Volity-to-Volity) $0
Withdraw fiat via SEPA $0
Withdraw crypto $0 from Volity (network fees apply)
FX conversion (USD → EUR or similar) 1% of converted amount

The $0 wallet design is deliberate. Many platforms charge custody fees, deposit fees, or withdrawal fees that erode small accounts. Volity’s positioning is that holding and moving money should be free; only trading and FX carry costs.

BCHUSD Wider than BTC/ETH, mid-range
LTCUSD Mid-range

Swap rates explained

Swap is the cost of carrying a leveraged position overnight. The mechanics:

  • Volity holds collateral against your leveraged position
  • The cost of holding that collateral depends on the prevailing interest-rate market
  • The swap fee passes that cost (or benefit) to you
  • Applied at 22:00 GMT, every trading day a position is held

For crypto positions, swap rates correlate with the broader funding-rate market for that crypto. Positive swap means you receive a small credit; negative means you pay.

Swap is not the same as the funding rate on perpetual contracts (Volity does not run perpetuals). It is closer to the overnight rate on a margin loan.

How to minimise swap: – Close positions before 22:00 GMT if you do not intend to hold overnight – Use CFDs on future contracts (these have no swap on Volity) – Trade intraday strategies that close positions before the swap window

How Volity’s costs compare

This section is hard to write without naming competitors, which house rules discourage as a stand-alone framing. The honest summary: spread-based crypto pricing on Volity is competitive with the major regulated brokers and tighter than most exchanges once you factor in fiat-to-crypto deposit fees, withdrawal fees, and FX spreads on stablecoin conversions.

The fair comparison framework, for any platform you evaluate:

  1. All-in cost of round-trip a $10,000 BTC position. Include: deposit fee + entry spread + exit spread + withdrawal fee + FX spread if any
  2. All-in cost of holding for 7 days with 1:20 leverage. Include: entry spread + 7 days of swap + exit spread
  3. All-in cost of moving $1,000 from EUR to BTC and back. Include: SEPA deposit fee + FX to USD + BTC spread + reverse path

Run that on any platform and you have an apples-to-apples view. We expect Volity to compare favourably on each.

What Volity does not charge

  • No account-opening fee
  • No deposit fee on card or SEPA (issuing bank or card scheme may charge at their end)
  • No monthly maintenance fee
  • No withdrawal fee on SEPA
  • No commission on Standard-account trades (most retail products)
  • No inactivity fee under normal use patterns
  • No data-feed subscription fee
  • No charting fee
  • No mobile app fee
  • No API access fee on Standard tier

Costs you should still plan for

Even with the $0 wallet design, four cost factors deserve planning:

1. Slippage. Live execution can fill above or below the displayed quote in fast-moving markets. Volity’s 99.6% sub-1s fill rate keeps slippage minimal, but it is not zero in extreme volatility.

2. Swap on long-held leveraged positions. A $10,000 BTC long held for 30 days at 1:20 leverage with negative swap can accumulate non-trivial financing costs. Run the maths.

3. Tax. Realised P&L is taxable in most jurisdictions. Volity provides annual statements; the tax cost is yours.

4. Card-issuer fees. Some card issuers charge a cash-advance fee for deposits to trading accounts. Volity itself does not, but the card issuer may. Check before depositing large amounts.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any hidden fees on Volity?

No. The fee schedule is: spread on trades, swap on overnight leveraged positions, 1% FX conversion. Wallet, SEPA, internal transfers, deposits, and most withdrawals are $0. No monthly maintenance, no inactivity penalty under normal use, no charting subscription.

What is the lowest fee crypto trading on Volity?

Standard accounts pay only the spread on trades, with no commission. VIP-tier accounts ($50,000+) get tighter spreads on top pairs. CFDs on future contracts carry no swap fee, which makes them cost-efficient for longer-held positions.

Why does Volity have a wallet at $0?

The wallet layer is part of Volity’s all-in-one money hub. Volity makes money on trading spreads, FX conversion, and swap on leveraged overnight positions. Holding funds is not a profit centre, so it is priced at $0.

What is swap on Volity?

Swap is the cost (or credit) of holding a leveraged position past 22:00 GMT. It reflects the prevailing interest-rate market for the underlying asset. Positive swap pays you; negative swap costs you. Closed positions and intraday trades incur no swap.

How does the 1% FX conversion work?

If you fund your Volity wallet in EUR and trade BTCUSD, Volity converts at the prevailing market rate plus a 1% conversion fee. The same applies to converting profits back. To avoid the fee, fund in the same currency you trade in, or hold multiple currencies in your wallet and convert only the portion you need.

Do I pay deposit fees on Volity?

No. Card deposits, SEPA, and crypto deposits are all free from Volity. Your card issuer may charge a fee at their end (especially for cash-advance treatment); Volity does not control that.

Is the API free to use?

Yes, included with your Volity account on Standard rate limits (60 REST req/min, 5 WebSocket connections). VIP-tier accounts unlock higher limits.
